John Frederick Kammerdiener

It is with deep sadness and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of John Frederick Kammerdiener, age 85, of Templeton, Pennsylvania, who passed away unexpectedly in his home on Sept.21, 2025.

John was born on June 28th, 1940, in Goheenville, PA to the late William & Anna (Hensel) Kammerdiener. He spent his life as a pillar of strength, humor, and unwavering love to those around him. He retired after 20 years of dedicated service at the National Underground Storage Mine, a place he valued not only for the work, but for the lifelong friendships he built there. He often spoke fondly of his coworkers and the memories they shared.

John was the beloved husband of Barb Kammerdiener, his wife of 65 years. He loved her from the moment they met, and their love story is nothing short of a fairytale-built on deep devotion, quiet strength, laughter, and unwavering support. Their marriage was a beautiful example of lifelong partnership and unconditional love.

John was a devoted father to Pam (Steve) Woodside and Lisa (Steve) Aden- a "superhero" type of father, the kind of dad who could fix anything, lift any burden, and make his daughters feel safe and completely loved in every stage of life.

His proudest role was as "Pop" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He deeply loved his grandchildren: Tenesha (Jeff) Becker, Nathan (Elise) Woodside, Tyler (Ashley) Woodside, Sheena (Ryan) Mittelmeier, and Gaven Aden, and found great joy in spending time with his great-grandchildren: Makenna, Morgan, Addison, Tanner, Weston, Roman, Lennon and Silas.

John's heart was happiest in the outdoors-hunting and fishing with his grandson Nathan, a passion he saw passed on to the next generation. He never missed a chance to cheer on Tenesha, Sheena, and Gaven during their basketball games, beaming with pride from the sidelines. He also cherished sharing stories with Tyler, who loved learning about Pop's childhood, family, and the way things used to be. Their conversations were full of laughter, curiosity, and a deep bond that spanned generations.

A true Pittsburgh sports fan, John remained loyal to the Pirates and Steelers through every win and loss. John was known for being selfless, funny, a jokester, strong, loving, supportive, and deeply devoted- a man who gave everything he had to those he loved, without ever asking for anything in return.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: brothers, William, Clarence, Vernon, and Carl Kammerdiener, and sisters, Lavina Pollock, Dorothy Chico, Nellie Kovar, Clara Belle Dunham, and Florence Kensky.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025 at the Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 515 N. McKean Street, Kittanning, PA.

Additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025 from 10 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11 AM where friends and family will gather to honor the memory of a man who made everyone feel like family. Rev. Dennis Molnar will officiate.

Interment will be in Cochran Cemetery, Templeton, PA.
