Joyce A. Kennedy

Joyce A. Kennedy, 71, of Rimersburg, PA, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024 Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sligo, PA.

She was born in Brookville, PA on May 16, 1953, the daughter of the late Max and Marie (Carrier) McKinney.

Joyce grew up in Sligo, PA attending the Union School District and graduated in 1971. After graduation, she was then employed by the Archway Cookie Company. On Feb. 4, 1972 she married her high school sweetheart, Tom Kennedy. They have been married for 52 years. While her husband was in the U.S. Navy Boot Camp, she worked in the fabric store in Rimersburg. After boot camp, she traveled with Tom, to Great Lakes Naval Station where she worked at Burger King for a period of time. They then moved to Charlestown, SC where they lived for approximately three and ½ years. During that time, she worked as a fitness instructor for two seasons. On June 21, 1974 she gave birth to their only child, Christina Dawn. Joyce was an excellent seamstress. She custom made clothing for three individuals for about two years. She also custom-made draperies for her home as well as alternations on clothing for family and friends. Joyce was employed by Jo-Ann Fabrics, was a bank teller part-time, then full-time for about four years. She helped her best friend, Karen Jordan with the after school program (Kings Kids). She was secretary for Thomas Kennedy Wiring Contractors for several years. She was the co-owner of Kennedy's Dream Ice Cream, for approximately 10 years.

She enjoyed camping, riding motorcycles, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Tom of Rimersburg; her daughter, Christina (Ryan) Flick; grandchildren, Lexi Flick (Kane McCall), Zach Flick (Josie Kirk); her brothers, Merle (Judy) McKinney of Erie and Arnold (Cathy) McKinney of Rimersburg; her sister, Thelma (Karl Dean) Stewart of Rimersburg; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Kennedy of Shreveport, LA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law, Tom and Annice Kennedy, as well as her brother, Paul and wife, Mary Jane McKinney; and sister-in-law, Sandra Johnson.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home, 758 Main St., Rimersburg, PA.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at the funeral home, with Lay Pastor Brenda Haws officiating.

Interment will be Rimersburg Cemetery, Rimersburg, PA.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Donations can be dropped off at Northwest Bank in Rimersburg.
