Jean V. Smith

Jean V. Smith, 87, of Cleveland, OK and formerly of Kittanning, PA, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at her daughter's home.

She was born April 2, 1929 in Apollo, PA to Charles and Nettie (Shoemaker) Stewart.

After attending New Bethlehem High School, Jean married Ralph C. Smith on March 8, 1952 at his parents' home in Colwel, PA. They moved to Kittanning and made their home here for 55 years. Jean was dedicated to caring for her family and home. She loved the Lord and from 1968 until 2003, faithfully attended the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Slate Lick. From 2003 until 2008, she became a regular member of the Walkchalk Salem Baptist Church. In 2008, Jean moved to Cleveland, OK to be close to her daughter and worshiped at the First Church of the Nazarene in Cleveland. After living a year in Oklahoma, she moved back to Kittanning and attended Harvest Community Church. Having a heart for the Jewish community, she supported them regularly.

In her leisure time, she found great pleasure in reading the Bible, doing embroidery work and making quilts for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time at family gatherings with her children and their families. Jean was an avid baker for her husband.

Her memory will be cherished by her daughters, Deborah Lane and husband, Tim, of Kittanning, and Darlene Anderson and husband, Tim, of Cleveland, OK; son, Dennis Smith and wife, Linda, of Elderton; grandchildren, Christopher Lane and wife, Delayna, Melanie Graham and husband, J. R., Kristy Ohler, Kregg Smith and wife, Katrina, Nate Anderson and wife, Jessica, and Joey and Zachary Anderson; and great-grandchildren, Brandon and Brittany Graham, Kimberly, Angelina and Arianna Lane, London Smith, and Jordan and Alexis Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Nettie (Shoemaker) Stewart; loving husband, Ralph C. "Smitty" Smith, who died December 14, 2007; granddaughter, Tabitha Anderson; brothers, David and Elmer Stewart; and sisters, Susie Beer, Mary Watterson and Hazel Ishman.

Friends will be received from 7-9 PM on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 and from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 515 North McKean Street, Kittanning, PA.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Friday, March 17, 2017 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Fred Neal, III officiating.

Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Distant, PA.
