Shirley Jean Shimmons

Shirley Jean Shimmons, 80, of Rimersburg, PA, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at UPMC Magee Women's Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

She was born January 17, 1936 in Bela, Toby Twp., Clarion Co., PA, the daughter of Kenneth "Huck" and Inie (Magnani) Crispen.

Shirley was a lifelong resident of Huey and graduated from Union Joint High School in 1954. Following graduation, she was employed for the FBI in Washington D.C. until she married James "Dinger" Shimmons on August 2, 1957. After her marriage, she was dedicated to caring for her home and family. She later worked at Parker Glass and the Union High School cafeteria. Due to an accident in 1975, she became a paraplegic and spent the rest of her life in a wheelchair. But because of her strong faith and the love of her family, she never considered that a major obstacle.

Shirley was a member of the New Athens Church of God of Prophecy and was a strong woman of faith who never ceased praying for those in need. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting and working on crafts. Shirley also liked caring for her flowers, even from her wheelchair. She loved cooking meals for her family and was proud to pass her special Italian recipes down to her grandchildren. Shirley will be best remembered for her deep love for her family and others, and her upbeat attitude and perseverance - were an inspiration to many - despite her great obstacle.

Her memory will be cherished by her sons, Timothy James Shimmons, of Sligo, and George L. Shimmons and wife, Lisa, of Rimersburg; daughter, Pamela Jean Garver and husband, Stephen, of Parker; grandchildren, Josh Garver, Brianna Garver, Andrea Shuster and husband, Brent, Courtney Bauldoff and husband, Matt, Christian James Shimmons and Rona Lee Shimmons; great-grandchildren, Adrianna Kriebel and Easton Bauldoff; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Shimmons, of Georgia, Shirley Stewart and husband, Virgil, of Rimersburg, and Pat Shimmons, of Summerville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, James "Dinger" Shimmons, who died in 1984; and twin brothers, Edward L. and Howard D. Crispen.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 758 Main St., Rimersburg.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Baker Street Church of God, 160 Veterans St., Rimersburg, with the Rev. Colin Koch officiating.

Interment will be in Concord Presbyterian Cemetery, Parker, PA.

Memorial contribution may be made in her honor to the Clarion Forest VNA Hospice, 271 Perkins Road, Clarion, PA 16214.
