Carl Kimmel

Carl Kimmel, 89, of Elderton, PA, passed away Monday, December 26, 2016, at Country Manor Personal Care Home, Kittanning.

He was born June 6, 1927 in Shelocta, PA, to Edgar and Emma (Shaeffer) Kimmel.

Carl had worked on the family farm until age of 25 then was employed for 42 years with FMC Corporation in Homer City until his retirement in 1989. For 31 years, Carl served on the Elderton Borough Council and was a member of the Elderton Fire Company and the Plumcreek Church of the Brethren. Prior to moving to Elderton, he was active in the Indiana Community where he resided. Carl was instrumental in establishing the Indiana Church of the Brethren where he was a member for 45 years and had served as Deacon Emeritus. After his retirement, Carl enjoyed traveling and camping in his motor home with family and friends.

His memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 59 years, Willadene (Learn) Kimmel whom he married January 5, 1957; a son, David Kimmel of Elderton; two daughters, Cheryl Kimmel of Ontario, CA, and Carlene Blair and husband, Phillip of Athol, ID; one granddaughter, Katie Mangum of Ontario, CA; and a brother, Glenn Kimmel and wife, Shirley of Shelocta.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edwin "Skip" Kimmel; and three sisters, Ruth Kimmel, Gertrude Bouch, and Connie Kimmel.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2017, at 2 PM at the Plumcreek Church of the Brethren.
