Charles D. Miller, Sr.

Charles D. Miller, Sr., 93, of Kittanning, PA passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Armstrong County Health Center.

He was born July 17, 1921 in Kittanning Twp., Armstrong Co., PA, the son of Lawrence B. and Mertie (Walker) Miller.

Charles lived in the area all his life and was a member of Whitesburg United Methodist Church. For 42 years he was a heavy equipment operator in the strip mining business, working with C&M Coal Company, B&G Construction, Allegheny River Mining Company, and Carpentertown Coal and Coke Company, where he retired from in 1983. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America since 1941 and in his free time enjoyed hunting. Charles also loved playing his guitar and singing country western music.

He will be greatly missed by his son, Charles D. Miller, Jr., of Kittanning; daughters, Charlesetta Bleakney and husband, Robert, of Kittanning, Shirley Schall and husband, Robert, of Kittanning, and Mertie Jean Walker and husband, Randy, of Ford City; step-daughters, Kathy J. Wasson, of Lawrenceville, GA, and Susan M. Adams and husband, Allen, of Kittanning; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gertrude M. (Hoffman) Miller, who died January 2, 1987; granddaughter, Angela Dawn Bricker; brothers, Larry Eugene Miller, L. Martin Miller and Asa E. Miller, Sr.; half-brother, Roy Thomas Miller; half-sisters, Edith Nelson, Roberta Quinn and Ruth Penvose; and loving companion of 25 years, Faye L. Wissinger.

Friends and family will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning.

Additional visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM, at the funeral home, on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, with the Rev. Ernie DeLuca officiating.

Burial will be in Simpson Cemetery, Kittanning, PA.
